1. Don’t skip mascara
When you’re trying to use makeup to look younger, mascara is an absolute must.
Mascara will help to open up your eyes to give you that more youthful look.
Without mascara, your eyes will tend to look dull and tired, giving you a haggard look. Prevent this with a mascara like the always popular Better Than Sex Mascara by Two Faced.
However, if you’re like me and you’re not picky with mascara, I would personally just pick the a budget friendly that has good testimonials (The Loreal Lash Paradise is an amazing dupe for the Better Than Sex Mascara)
1. Highlight your eyes
If you read my post on my easy, fast makeup routine, then you know how much I believe in the power of a little bit of highlighter.
Because no, you don’t have to have a strobe-like glow in order for highlighter to have an impact.
Instead, when you’re trying to look younger, simply highlight the inner corner of your eye with a basic highlighter like the Pure Nude Highlighter by Essence (budget friendly and works just as well as some of my higher-end highlighters!).
By highlighting the inner corner, you’ll enhance the whites of your eyes. Bright eyes make all the difference for achieving a youthful look.

3. Conceal your under eye
Speaking of that tired, haggard look, let’s chat about the importance of concealing your under eye.
It took quite me quite a while to discover the power of a good concealer, but now that I’ve started concealing my under eye, I honestly can’t go a day without it.
Concealing your under eye will help conceal those pesky dark under eye circles, which is probably one of the most important steps for getting that more youthful appearance.
If you’re on the hunt for a good concealer that really gets the job done, and doesn’t dry out or crack on the skin, I’m obsessed with the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. Super hydrating and easy to use, this has been my go-to concealer for the past 6 months, and I’ll likely be repurchasing as soon as my current tube runs out.
If you’re not sure how to properly conceal your under eye, I have a full post explaining the process. Give it a read for a step-by-step guide that will have your eyes looking bright and youthful.
For more budget friendly alternatives to NARs, I highly recommend the Age Rewind concealer by Maybelline. This product is specifically designed to help with anti-aging, and really, the only reason I ever switched over to NARS was because I had a gift certificate. Just note that you’ll want to pick a good under eye powder if you’re using this product.
3. Don’t overdo your foundation
If you’re feeling self conscious about your skin, or you’re starting to worry about skin discolouration, or any other signs of aging, you might be inclined to layer on the foundation…
Don’t do this!
Loads of heavy foundation will look unnatural, and will inevitably settle into fines line, which you don’t want when you’re trying to give yourself a more youthful complexion.
Personally, I highly recommend investing in the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream.
This super lightweight foundation not only looks natural, it also doubles both as a foundation and a skin care product.
It has SPF 50, hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants that all help to visibly reduce (and prevent!) wrinkles and pores.
I can’t recommend this product enough, and I’ll probably keep singing the praises of it until everyone experiences its greatness.
Yup, it’s seriously just that good for giving you natural coverage that helps with a radiant, youthful glow.

4 A primer will work wonders for you
While I don’t personally need a primer when I use the It Cosmetics CC Cream, if you’re struggling a bit more with fine lines and wrinkles, a good primer is going to become your new best friend.
There are primers for various skin care concerns, but to help make you look younger, I would suggest looking for a hydrating primer that helps to blur pores. This will help ensure that your makeup doesn’t start to settle into fine lines.
In addition, you’ll likely enjoy having a primer in your makeup bag because as you age, your skin tends to loose moisture and elasticity, meaning foundation is much more likely to settle into dry skin patches, which can age you. A good primer will help prevent this.
If you’d like to try out a primer, but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg, my favorite primer is the Pore Eraser by Maybelline. I’ve used expensive primers, and honestly this one is just as a good.

5. Be conservative with powdery products
Really, no matter what your age, I think everyone should be conservative with powdery products, especially in the summer when natural sunlight tends to highlight the amount of powder you’re wearing.
Of course this doesn’t mean you can’t wear bronzer, blush, and/or highlight; however, the key is to pick and choose how much of each product you’re using.
If you really want to be conservative with how much powder you’re using, I would suggest trying out some cream products. Cream products tend to blend into the skin very naturally (assuming you’re using a high quality product).
Having said this, if you have oily skin and the idea of using cream products is a little scary for you, just remember that oily skin is often a sign that your skin is dehydrated. In other words, your skin might simply be producing extra oil because it is so dehydrated. So, while it may sound counterintuitive, don’t be conservative with moisturizer. Instead, consider investing in a water based moisturizer, like Vichy’s Aqualia Thermal Light Cream, with hyaluronic acid (obsessed!).
Do this, and you’ll likely find cream products aren’t so scary.
6. Use an under eye powder
Like I mentioned previously, a super easy makeup tip for a more youthful appearance is focusing on the brightness of your eyes.
To even further enhance bright eyes, try out a brightening powder, like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette.
As mentioned in the previous tip, it’s important to be conservative with your powder in order to look youthful, but at the same, just a little bit of an eye brightening powder with this palette will work wonders.
Plus, because this powder is so finely milled, it does an amazing job of blending seamlessly with your skin. Seriously, I’ve used the Ambient Lighting palette for over a year now, and it is almost undetectable on the skin. Really, all it does is add some glow to your under eye, which is always a good thing in my books.
7. Use a makeup sponge
If you read my post on my favorite makeup products, you’ll know that I’ve become a big fan of using my fingers to apply makeup.
While this isn’t exactly the most “professional” way to apply your makeup, with the products I’m using, I really don’t find that using a sponge makes that much of difference.
BUT
If you’re really concerned with applying your makeup in a way that gives you a youthful glow, I highly recommend using a product like a Beauty Blender.
Not only will this ensure that you get a flawless, natural finish with any products that you put on your face, it will also pick up excess product if you happen to apply too much (remember, for youthful skin, you want to be conservative with the amount of makeup you’re putting on your face).
PRO EASY MAKEUP TIP: When using any sort of makeup sponge, be sure to get it wet before use. This will cause the sponge to expand. Squeeze excess water out, and continue adding water until the sponge has become super saturated. You’ll know when this happens because the sponge will stop growing. Squeeze all the water out so that the sponge is damp, and then blend the makeup into your skin using the damp beauty blender.
And there you have it: Seven easy makeup tips that will give you a more youthful glow.
