1. Give yourself the “Snooki Poof” for voluminous hair
Hair feeling a little flat?
Girl, I feel you. As someone with fairly long hair that’s naturally pretty straight, I’m always looking for simple beauty hacks that will leave my hair looking voluminous.
One super simple way to do this is to give yourself a little “Snooki poof.”
Yup, you read that correctly.
To do so, start by blow drying your hair as normal, then reach for a basic hair claw and pin your top layer of hair into a little “poof.” Leave the “poof” up there while you’re getting ready, then release, and you’ll be left with amazing volume.
Easy peasy.
(p.s. this is my favorite blow dryer for avoiding frizz and getting amazingly shiny hair)
2. Hairspray your bobby pins
Are bobby pins starting to take over your home because they’re constantly falling out of your hair?
Yup, sounds familiar.
If you’re in the same boat with bobby pins slipping out of your hair, one way to make sure they stay in place all day is to spray them with hairspray.
Simply spray the bobby pin, and then insert it into your hair, but make sure the ridges of the pin are against your scalp.
Do this, and those bobby pins aren’t budging.
3. Double Your Mascara As Eyeliner
Eyeliner tends to be one of those beauty products that I’m constantly forgetting to pick up.
Simple beauty hack to the rescue!
If you find yourself in need of eyeliner, but you don’t have time to run out to your local drugstore or Sephora, simply dip an eyeliner brush into your mascara, and voila! You’ve got yourself instant eyeliner.
Not to mention, with the use of this hack your “eyeliner” will stay in place all day, and actually tends to apply even creamier than your standard eyeliner, which I’m definitely a fan of.
Product Suggestion:
For voluminous, flirty lashes that stay in place all day, you can’t do better than the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara. This continues to remain a cult favorite drugstore product for a reason.
4. Tame Frizzy Hair With A Dryer Sheet
I know, I know, but hear me out on this one.
If you’re dealing with all the frizz, and you’re looking to tame those pesky fly-aways, it’s time to pull out a dryer sheet.
Simply put the dryer sheet over your regular hair brush, and then brush out your hair as you normally would. This will help tame the frizz, and keep your hair looking and feeling smooth all day long.
Product Suggestion:
If you have difficult to manage hair that tends to get frizzy and tangled, I highly recommend this brush. I purchased mine about 6 months ago, and it’s made such a difference in keeping my hair smooth and much more manageable
5. Use Conditioner As Shaving Cream
This is one that I use all the time.
Seriously, I haven’t bought a can of shaving cream in…well, I actually don’t think I have ever bought shaving cream.
Instead, to shave my legs, I simply use whatever hair conditioner I have in my shower.
The conditioner makes my legs feel super soft, it doesn’t burn the way shaving cream does, plus, I don’t have to buy any extra products to shave my legs. Not a bad deal, right?
(This tip also comes in handy when packing for vacation, because you don’t have to bring shaving cream with you!)
6. Use Lip Balm For Brow Gel
Speaking of replacing beauty products with items you likely already have…
Did you know you can easily replace brow gel with lip balm? Just ensure you’re using a lip balm with no colour, apply to the brow, and your hairs are guaranteed to stay in place all day.
7. Dry Shampoo Can Replace Deodorant
While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that you should start using dry shampoo instead of deodorant, when deodorant is in short supply, and you find yourself in this sticky situation, simply pull out some dry shampoo and spray those pits.
Yup, give it a try.
Product Suggestion
I haven’t washed my hair in three days as of today, and with this dry shampoo, my hair is still holding up.
8. Remove Self Tanner Stains With Baking Soda
If you’re like me, and you live in a cold climate, but still want to keep your summertime glow, sometimes self tanner is an absolute must.
But ugh, who wants all those pesky self tanner stains all over their hands?
Certainly not me!
The fix? Simply mix baking soda with water, and apply the mixture to your skin with a cotton pad. Say buh-bye to those dreaded self tanner stains!
Product Suggestion
While there are certainly a lot of self tanners out there that are higher-end, this drugstore self tanner has been my go-to for over 10 years. It’s natural, affordable, and gets the job done. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some extra summer time glow.
9. Use Vaseline To Help Make Your Perfume Last
I can’t say I’m a huge perfume wearer, but I can say, if I am going to go through the effort to wear perfume, I definitely want it to last all day.
Simple beauty hack to combat this?
Prior to putting on your perfume, apply just a little Vaseline to the areas you spray the perfume (ideally, your pressure points, like your wrist and neck). The use of the Vaseline allows the scent to more strongly “stick to your skin.”
10. Cover Grey Hairs With Mascara
Unfortunately, this is a beauty hack that only works for my fellow brunettes, but it’s the one that I use most frequently, and has saved me more times than I can count.
If you’re dealing with grey hair, simply apply some mascara to the grey, and voila, it’s hidden!
Seriously, if your hair is dark, and you only have a few greys here and there to cover, this is the perfect alternative to pulling out those pesky greys. (I have a profound fear of loosing all my hair as I age, so I try my best not to pull out my hair, if I don’t have to).
11. Keep Curls By Sleeping in a Scrunchie
There’s nothing worse than spending time on your hair, only to find that by the next day, your curls have completely settled.
One way to combat flat hair in the morning is to sleep with your hair on top of your head, secured with a scrunchie.
You can also use an elastic, but this will often leave a weird kink in the hair. Plus, elastics tend to be much tighter, which can leave the curls looking a little Shirley Temple like. A scrunchie won’t do this.
Plus hey, scrunchies are super trendy right now, so you can easily wear your scrunchie while out and about.
So ladies, have you tried any of these simple beauty hacks?
I tried my best to find ones that weren’t super standard, so hopefully there’s at least one or two in there that you can give a go.
Personally, I highly recommend switching from shaving cream to conditioner. It makes a huge difference in preventing skin irritation!
